MCP tool reference
Fluent’s MCP server at https://mcp.becomefluent.io offers 21 tools: 16 read and 5 write. Setup for each AI app is in Use your conversations in Claude or ChatGPT and on the MCP server page.
Setup and permissions
Add https://mcp.becomefluent.io as a custom connector. The app sends you to sign in to Fluent (OAuth 2.1 with PKCE; no API keys), then Fluent’s consent page lists what the app will be able to do, and nothing is shared until you click Allow. The app then acts as you: it sees only your own Fluent data and the team notes shared with you.
Read and write
- Read: the tool doesn’t change your data (
get_team_noterecords that you read the note). Every read tool is annotated read only. - Write: the tool adds or changes data in your Fluent account.
- Write (replaces data): the tool overwrites what was there, and is annotated destructive.
- No tool is a sensitive write: none sends messages, makes payments or deletes anything.
Errors every tool can return
- HTTP 401 with WWW-Authenticate pointing at the resource metadata when there is no access token: the client starts sign-in.
- HTTP 401 with WWW-Authenticate: Bearer error="invalid_token" when the access token is invalid or expired: the client refreshes it or signs in again.
- A tool error saying the session expired when Fluent's API refuses the token mid-call: sign in again.
- A tool error naming a missing required parameter.
- A tool error saying the call was rate limited (Fluent's API answered 429): wait, then retry.
- A tool error saying the call failed when Fluent's API is unavailable: retry later.
A tool that fails returns an MCP tool result with isError: true and a sentence saying why.
Limits
- A tool response is capped at 30,000 characters; the response says when it was cut.
search_conversations,list_people,list_tasks,list_goalsandlist_follow_upsreturn at most 20 items.list_memoriesreturns 20 conversations a page by default, and up to 50 withlimit.get_memorypages a transcript 200 lines at a time by default, and up to 500 withlimit.get_meeting_notesincludes up to 50 transcript lines, andget_team_noteup to 400.- Client registration (
POST /register) is limited to 2 requests a second, with bursts of 5. - Tool calls have no per-user rate limit. If Fluent’s API is overloaded it answers 429, and the tool returns a rate-limited error: wait, then retry.
